Comcast Cable Appoints President, Technology and Product and CTOSree Kotay

Comcast Cable promoted Tony Werner to President, Technology and Product, and Sree Kotay to CTO. In his new role, Werner will continue to oversee all aspects of the Technology and Product organization, including innovation, development and operations. The Technology and Product team leads the design and development of Comcast's customer-facing products, software development, systems engineering, next-generation access networks, cloud computing and technical operations. 

Kotay, Comcast's new CTO, joined Comcast in 2007 as Chief Software Architect. Kotay will take on an expanded role, leading Comcast's software and technology strategy, particularly as it relates to new customer-facing products and services, including advanced video and Internet. Mr. Kotay will also now oversee Comcast Innovation Labs Comcast's advanced research and development group as well as overseeing the integration of quality engineering into all aspects of product development.

SAP Promotes IT Service Head as CIO         

SAP named Thomas Saueressig, 31, as CIO. Saueressig is the youngest CIO at a German DAX company, who will lead SAPs IT organization and report to the COO. Saueressig joined SAP in 2004 and was previously global head of IT service.

Goldman Sachs’ Global Head of Investment Banking Technology Leaves

Goldman Sachs Group announced that Lance Braunstein has left Group as managing director and global head of investment banking technology. He has joined as CIO of OptionsHouse, an Aperture Group company

Chubb Promotes Regional Cyber Risks Manager      

Chubb named Gilbert Flepp to the role of Head of Construction, Powergen and Cyber Risk for Africa, as it continues to build its insurance capabilities in the Eurasia & Africa region. Before assuming his current position, Gilbert was Cyber Risks Manager (First Party) for Continental Europe, with responsibility for developing and managing cyber risk insurance products and services across the region. Previously, he served as Technical Lines Manager for Continental Europe, overseeing several diversified portfolios with a focus on power generation, IT & communication (ITC) and construction.

Telstra Appoints Former Nokia CEO to the Newly Created Role of Group Executive of Technology, Innovation and Strategy          

Telstra has appointed Stephen Elop as group executive of technology, innovation and strategy. Elop will have responsibility for Telstra's strategy to become a world class technology company. Elop has held global executive roles with Nokia, Microsoft, Juniper, Adobe and Macromedia including CEO of Nokia for three years.

Adobe Hires CIO from NetApp          Cynthia Stoddard

Adobe named Cynthia Stoddard as SVP and CIO. Most recently, she was CIO and SVP at data storage and management company NetApp, where she led the company's traditional IT functions while also expanding focus on innovation, customer-facing programs and strategic partnerships.

Kimberly-Clark Names Walmart Stores Exec as CIO

Kimberly-Clark Corporation announced that Suja Chandrasekaran has been named CIO. Most recently, Chandrasekaran was SVP, global CTO and chief data officer at Walmart Stores. Prior to Walmart, she was the global CIO for The Timberland Company. Earlier in her career, she held various IT leadership positions including CTO at PepsiCo and CIO, transformation – Americas at Nestle AG.

BMO Financial Group Appoints Head of Technology and Operations         

Tony da Camara now serves as BMO Financial Group's head of technology and operations. Most recently, he was CIO of BMO Harris Bank National Association.

Intercontinental Exchange Promotes SVP of Trading Technology to CTO  

Intercontinental Exchange announced that Mayur Kapani has been promoted to CTO for the company. As CTO, Kapani oversees ICE’s global technology infrastructure, which includes ICE futures exchanges and clearing houses, and will provide guidance for technology at the New York Stock Exchange and Interactive Data. Kapani joined ICE in 2006, serving most recently as SVP of Trading Technology.

S&P Global Appoints IBM Research Exec as CIO    

S&P Global announced that Krishna Nathan has joined the company as CIO. Previously, Dr. Nathan served as VP of Systems at IBM Research, where he led the development and execution of research strategies across multiple areas such as next generation data centers, cognitive systems design, and security. He began his career at IBM in 1991 at the T.J. Watson Research Center, and went on to hold a range of leadership positions in the U.S. and Europe.

Symantec Exec Joins Standard Chartered as CISO    Cheri McGuire

Standard Chartered Bank has appointed Cheri McGuire as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). McGuire joins Standard Chartered from Symantec, where she has been VP of Global Government Affairs and Cyber Security Policy since 2010 and based in the US.

CSX Corporation Promotes Company Veteran to CIO          

Kathleen Brandt, currently head of the CSX Corporation’s IT subsidiary, will become SVP and CIO. Brandt joined CSX in 1985 and rose through the IT organization, becoming its leader. She has succeeded in key roles in organizational strategy and capital planning, and has ideal skills to lead CSX teams in accelerating deployment of automation, analytics and systems to contribute to next-generation safety, service and efficiency.

Haitong Securities Appoints New CIO          

Haitong Securities Company Limited, a major securities firm in China, approved the proposal of appointing Mao Yuxing as CIO. Before this, he was Deputy General Manager of IT Department at Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

MTN Group Appoints Group Executive in Technology and Information Systems

MTN Group has appointed Babak Fouladi as Group Executive, Technology and Information Systems. In this role, Fouladi will lead the delivery of MTN's network and IT strategy across the Group. On joining MTN, he will temporarily assume responsibility for the vacant CTO role in MTN South Africa, until a permanent appointment is finalized. Fouladi joins MTN from Vodafone Spain.

Suncorp’s New CIO Joins from Medibank Private    

Suncorp Group has appointed Sarah Harland as the company's new CIO. Harland joins Suncorp from Medibank Private where she has been Executive General Manager, Technology and Operations. Her previous roles include General Manager - Group Technology for ANZ Bank and CIO roles at the National Health Service in the UK and QWEST Communications.

thyssenkrupp Appoints Business IT Specialist as CIO           

German conglomerate thyssenkrupp has appointed Martin Holz as head of the corporate function group processes and information technology, or GPI, and CIO. Martin Holz is a business IT specialist and joined thyssenkrupp in February 2014. Previous positions included senior partner at audit and consulting company Deloitte and various management functions at Daimler and Volkswagen/Audi. Klaus Hardy Muhleck has left the Group at his own request. He is to take up a managerial role with the Ministry of Defense, subject to agreement of the relevant bodies.

Yara International Promotes Head of R&D and Innovation to CTO

Pierre Herben joins the Yara Executive Management group as CTO. He served as Head of R&D and Innovation 2010-2016. Prior to joining Yara, Herben was VP Product and Application development at LyondellBasell Industries from 2007 to 2010.

Alliant Energy Taps VP of Technology from Seattle City Light        

Dirk Mahling has been named VP of Technology at Alliant Energy. In his role, Dirk will oversee all facets of the company's technology strategies and deployment information, operations, cybersecurity and emerging technologies. Since 2012, he has served as CIO at Seattle City Light. Previous positions include: SVP, Alstom Grid North America; VP, Operations Technology, Constellation Energy; and has had leadership roles in two start-ups and consulting positions with Ernst & Young and A.T. Kearney.

CIT Group Appoints Banking Industry Executive to Lead Technology Transformation      

Financial holding company CIT Group appointed Denise M. Menelly as EVP and Head of Technology and Operations. Previously, Menelly spent six years with Bank of America Merrill Lynch, most recently as Head of Enterprise Shared Services. In this role she managed and transformed functions shared by the bank’s corporate, commercial and consumer business lines. She is currently an Executive Board member of the National Center for Women in IT (NCWIT) and for the past four years she has served as the Executive Sponsor for NCWIT’s “Awards for Aspirations” – a national award for high school girls studying computer science.

Former Nokia CTO to Join HARMAN International Industries as EVP and CTO  

HARMAN International Industries announced that Henry Tirri will join the company as EVP and CTO. From 2004 to 2015, Tirri held technology leadership roles of increasing responsibility at Nokia. As EVP and CTO, and member of the Nokia Leadership Team, he was responsible for setting Nokia’s technology agenda, owned all forward-looking R&D and drove Nokia’s core innovation. Prior to joining Nokia, Tirri was a tenured Professor of Computer Science, Head of the Graduate School and the Intelligent Systems Laboratory at the University of Helsinki, leading a world-class research group in probabilistic modeling.

Keysight Technologies Plans to Launch Keysight Software Development Center; Appoints Leader

Keysight Technologies and the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) announced a plan to launch a Keysight software development center to accelerate Keysight’s transformation into a software-centric solutions provider. Todd Cutler, VP and general manager, Keysight Software Products Organization (SPO) and EEsof Electronic Design Automation, will relocate from Santa Rosa to Atlanta to lead the new software development center.

UBM Appoints Group CIO from Oxford University Press     

Global B2B events organizer UBM plc appointed Simon Hollins as Group CIO. Most recently Hollins was CIO for Oxford University Press where he worked on external digital partnerships and internal systems for improved productivity. Simon previously worked at EMI Music where he delivered digital supply chain and market insight programs.

Expedia Exec Joins Wayfair as VP of IT Infrastructure and Security

eCommerce based furniture seller Wayfair announced that Chad Ghosn has joined the company as VP of IT Infrastructure and Security. Before joining Wayfair, Ghosn led the infrastructure team at Expedia, where he spearheaded the modernization of the company’s network and computer environments.

New Jersey Resources Names Godiva CIO to Similar Role

New Jersey Resources announced Jacqueline K. Shea has joined the company as VP and CIO. Shea joins NJR from Godiva Chocolatier, where she served as CIO.

Verifone Systems CTO Resigns         

Verifone Systems announced the resignation of Alok Bhanot as EVP and CTO. Bhanot's responsibilities will be shared by Paul Galant, CEO, Glen Robson, EVP, Global Terminal Solutions and Marc Rothman, CFO.

Aspen Insurance Appoints Head of International Cyber RiskRaheila Nazir

Aspen Insurance has appointed Raheila Nazir as Head of International Cyber Risk. Based in London, Raheila joins Aspen Insurance from AIG Europe, where she was Professional Indemnity Manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, a role in which she helped drive the Cyber strategy with responsibility for product innovation in Cyber, Technology and Media lines. She was previously Cyber & Communications, Media and Technology Manager, managing and coordinating the UK portfolio of AIG Europe.

Mighty River Power Appoints Accomplished CIO Kevin Angland as GM Digital Services   

New Zealand based electricity generation and electricity retailing company Mighty River Power appointed Kevin Angland to the position of GM Digital Services. Angland, NZ CIO of the Year in 2014, has held senior leadership positions with New Zealand's insurer IAG NZ over the past decade, most recently as its CIO, overseeing the development and integration of technology platforms for some of New Zealand's best-known insurance brands including State, AMI and NZI.

Trinity Industries Announces CIO Appointment       

Diversified industrial company Trinity Industries announced that W. Relle Howard has joined as VP, CIO. Howard joined Trinity in February 2016. He was previously VP of Information Technology at Flowserve Corporation.

Zendesk Creates CIO Role    

Zendesk named Tom Keiser, former CIO and EVP of global product operations at Gap, as its first CIO. Keiser, whose career spans 20 years of leading global technology initiatives for consumer product and retail companies, most recently led the modernization of Gap’s IT and technology systems to address the rise of digital and mobile consumers.

The New York Times Company Names SVP of Engineering           

The New York Times Company has named Allan Beaufour as SVP of engineering. Beaufour was previously head of engineering at Sum. He has overall responsibility for APIs, content management, as well as data infrastructure across the company.

Proto Labs Hires CIO from MTS      

Proto Labs, the company CNC machined and injection molded components, appointed Rich Baker as its new CTO. Baker replaces longtime Proto Labs' employee and current CTO, Don Krantz, who recently announced his retirement. Baker joins Proto Labs during a time of fast and steady growth - a situation Baker is comfortable with. As CTO at MTS, he played an integral role in building the company’s revenue to approximately $470 million.

Kemper Appoints ACE Group Exec as CIO  

America's major insurance and consumer finance provider Kemper Corporation named Charles T. Brooks as SVP and CIO, leading Kemper’s information systems efforts across Kemper. Brooks previously served as the Global Operations Officer for ACE Group in Philadelphia.

Time Announces Tech Executive Changes    

Time named Kurt Rao to the newly created position of SVP, Technology Operations. Rao, former VP and Corporate CIO of Time Warner, will be responsible for leading the company's technology operations and infrastructure. Rao previously served as VP of Technology at NBC Universal. He has also worked at Vivendi, IAC Interactive and MTV Networks. Rao began his career at Viacom.

Jen Wong, the company President of Digital, will assume oversight of product development and engineering. The company CTO Colin Bodell will be leaving the company.

Cooper-Standard Hires Former GM Exec as CIO     

Automotive supplier Cooper-Standard appointed Susan Kampe as CIO. Most recently, Kampe served as managing partner and founder of Zang Consulting. Before joining Cooper Standard, she held several progressively responsible logistics roles at General Motors in Germany and the United States.

Progress Promotes VP, Engineering as Chief Transformation Officer          

Progress appointed Faris Sweis to the newly-established role of Chief Transformation Officer. In this new role, Sweis will work closely with the Progress product organization to craft and deliver on the strategic technological direction and lead the internal digital transformation effort. Previously, Sweis served as Chief Technical Officer for Telerik, acquired by Progress in December 2014, and was subsequently appointed VP of Engineering for Progress. Sweis joined Telerik in 2010, when it acquired ArtOfTest, which he co-founded and served as CTO. Sweis has also served as a software architect and consultant for Microsoft and Dell. 

Mathew Robinson resigned as its CTO to enroll in the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Neustar Taps DocuSign Security Exec          Tom Pageler

Neustar, the neutral provider of real-time cloud-based information & analysis, reported that Tom Pageler, has been appointed Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Prior to Neustar, Pageler served as CRO and CISO at DocuSign. Prior to that, he served as Deputy CISO, JPMorgan Chase; and Head of Risk Assessments and Director of Emerging Risk and Fraud Control, Visa.

LendingTree Appoints LinkedIn Exec as CTO         

Online lending exchange LendingTree announced that Paul Tyma has joined the company as its new CTO. Based in Charlotte at LendingTree's headquarters, Tyma will lead the company's technology strategy and operations. He is former Head of Identity Ecosystem of LinkedIn.

Freightways’ New CIO Comes from M2 Group        

Freightways Limited, a leading provider of express package services throughout New Zealand, appointed Matthew Cocker as its CIO. Matthew will oversee all aspects of Freightways Limited's IT. He is former General Manager, Information Technology of M2 Group.

Rent-A-Center Appoints BDP International CIO as SVP - IT and CIO        

American public furniture and electronics rent-to-own company Rent-A-Center appointed Angela Yochem to SVP - IT and CIO. Yochem comes to Rent-A-Center with more than 10 years of senior executive leadership experience and has a track record of driving competitive advantage and innovation through technology. Yochem recently served as CIO at BDP International.

Trinity Mirror Creates Group CTO Role

One of the largest British newspaper, magazine and digital publisher Trinity Mirror has appointed Eirik Svendsen to the newly created role of group CTO. Eirik has been an executive at Schibstead Media Group, an international media group, since 2011. His career history to date has included internet-centric companies across Europe, with roles at broadcasting software company Vizrt and publishing software company Escenic, amongst others.
